MECA & ADC-SF Call "BART Alert" to protest attacks on Palestinian Children

by Middle East Children's Alliance (meca [at] mecaforpeace.org)
On Tuesday, June 20 more than 150 people people joined MECA, ADC-SF and QUIT! in downtown Berkeley for an emergency action to say "NO!" to killing children by violence and deprivation.

The crowd carried banners, Palestinian flags, and signs with the names and pictures of children who have been killed by the Israeli army, listened to MECA and ADC speakers, and marched for a mile chanting and disseminating information to onlookers.

Since January Israel has fired 7,000 artillery shells on Gaza. The Israeli government has prevented goods - including food and medicine - from entering Gaza and has illegally withheld tax revenues it owes the Palestinian Authority (PA). Meanwhile, the EU has stopped aid to the PA and the US has cut aid to humanitarian agencies.

These punitive measures have created a critical shortage of flour, baby formula, medicines, and other goods. Already, three children with serious kidney disease died because there was no dialysis solution for their regular treatments.

"This is a humanitarian crisis of enormous proportions. Children are being killed, starved and deprived of medicines for life-threatening conditions," says Barbara Lubin, Founder and Director of the Middle East Children's Alliance, a humanitarian aid organization in Berkeley founded in 1988. Monadel El Abed, a Palestinian American from Gaza and board member of ADC-SF adds, "I have family in Gaza who are living with terrible fear and hardship every day. Meanwhile, as an American citizen, my tax dollars are shifting from urgently needed programs like health care and public education to paying for the Israeli shells that are raining down on children." Dr. Mona ElFarra, a physician in Gaza City and MECA’s Director of Gaza Projects says “Israel has a free hand to kill us in Palestine with the full support of the United States.” Lubin and El Abed both spoke at the demonstration.

We distributed handouts about children in Gaza. In the first two weeks of June 30 Palestinians, including 7 children and 3 paramedics, were killed by Israeli attacks and 105 Palestinians, including 29 children, were wounded by Israeli gunfire.

And your silly "protest" dissolved when the Israel supporters showed up. You went off meandering down Shattuck. Woo. Hoo. And please stop blathering the lies about the Gaza beach incident. The IDF didn't kill those people. (And don't bother whining that they did. The evidence is overwhelming. The Palis were killed by their own weapons. How fitting.) We know who you are. We know what lies you spread. We know you are powerless to fool the public. You have no credibility. You are, as they say, fucked. Long live Israel.

What a bunch of b.s. I was their talking to some Israel supporter (closet racist) telling them about what its mean to actually grow up in racist Israel. What its mean to see Arabs force to work in unpaid jobs and the racism that my family got for being Jews from an Arabs country. Talking to one of the closet racist about Shderot, telling him that it’s a town mostly of Jews from Arabs countries and that the unemployment rate there is very high, all the racist could tall me is that “yes it’s a problem”. When I ask him why is that that the racist state of Israel oppressed not only Arabs but also Jews from Arabs country, all he could say was “well there is racism here too”.

O, and by the way the racist Israeli army killed some more kids today, but I’m sure that the Israeli army itself would investigated that, and probably would find that their was no killing (or that the would is flat).

I’m sure that the Israeli army will investigate itself and will find that there was no killing and that the Palestinian family have probably committed suicide.

There was a significant grassroots counter demonstration to this event, sponsored by San Francisco Voice for Israel. A diverse, multigenerational group stood nearby and handed out literaturepointing out the fact that over a thousand Kassam rockets have been fired into Israel since the disengagemnt from Gaza, and that countless Israeli children were sufferring, too. Pedestrians and Bart commuters were moved to tears by displayed photos of Israeli victims of terror, and took up flags and signs and stood with us.
by for you
Your question: How do “countless of Israeli children are suffering too”? Are they denied food or medication?

With hundreds of missiles dropping on the working class town of Sderot (which incidently is well inside the green line), with Israeli children dying, they have estimated a large proportion of the town is suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome, so much, in fact, that the mayor has proposed sending ALL children away for summer camp.

Other children within Israel have suffered because of the unrelenting suicide attacks- only the presence of Israel's security fence has cut back those.

From the start of the second intifada on Sept. 27, 2000 of the 2,806 Palestinian dead, 47% were combatants killed by Israel, another 13% Palestinian killed by other Palestinians.(the Palestinain on Palestinian violence is included with the statistics you read here) Three percent of Palestinian non-combatant deaths were female; 3% were people over 45. Of the Palestinian children killed, over 80% were older teenage boys, indicating the use of children as soldiers in this conflict

However, of the 921 Israeli dead, 78% were non-combatants killed by Palestinians. Thirty percent were female; 25% were people over 45. They were targeted intentionally, in violation of international law.

The main difference between the deaths on both sides- the Palestinians TARGET children and civilians. Don't you ever wonder why their attacks aern't directed towards infrastructure? Why buses? Why pizza places? Why discos? The targets are chosen to mazimize terror and to mazamize civilian casualties

Here's some people with the courage to speak truth to power in Israel:
indymedia in israel
https://israel.indymedia.org/
Also, you talk about Israeli children, but how many Israeli children have died in the last week? or the last month?
You attempt to deflect by blaming the Palestinian victims---but the real victims are the Palestinian babies, children, pregnant women,e ct. murdered by Israel just in the last week alone.....
by Consequences...
Israel has the right to defend herself from attack. Do you condemn the Hamas terrorists who chose to set off Kassam missles in the middle of a crowded beach filled with children?
by You're getting it!
You are right, choices do have consequences

And until Israel stops extra-judicial assasinations (illegal),demolitions of innocents' homes, land theft and baby murder, they will continue to have rockets and other (albeit crude) forms of resistance to deal with.
by Run Away
I believe when it was pointed out to you that the current defense minister of Israel is from Sderot and was born in Morrocco, you ran away. The previous defense minister is also an Mizrachi Jew, as was much of the previous cabinet. For all your blather about "Racist Israel" and your conspiracy theories, you do not know the first thing about the Mizrachi rights movement, its main figures, or the progress made. Based on your comments and comparing them to Mizrachi Israelis I have known, you are the the one who does not know what it is to be a Mizrachi in Israel. All you can do is yell incoherently and run away.

by He'd have to rely on default
He'd have to rely on default--blaming it on those subhuman Palestinians--oh, but that would reveal the racism.

I have commented heavily on this, all my comments were deleted.
Your ignorance about the situation of Jews from Arab countries in Israel is laughable, Condoleezza rice is an African American and a woman, what does that says about the “rights” of black people and women in America?

I also have never got a good answer to my questions:

Why does Israel oppresses not only Arabs but also Jews from Arab countries.

What the definition of the Jewish “nationality”, if religion is a nationality than a catholic from the u.s. and catholic from Rome are from the same nation.

And why do the Amerikkkan government who bombs kids in Iraq for oil, and supports so many dictators in middle east (and the world) gives so much money to Israel?

All you Zionist can answer is that racism is part of human nature, or that America is out there to protect “freedom” and “democracy”.

And here is some information about the “conspiracy theory”:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavon_Affair

http://www.jewsagainstzionism.com/zionism/impact/iraqijews.cfm

but if you were actually educated about the history of amerikkka and Israel you wouldn’t be a Zionist, would you?

And stop running away from reality, you want a dialog? Relate to all comments not only to thus that you are cormftabul with.

Since you all Zionists are so oppose to attacks on kids (Jewish kids), I’m sure that you all support the latest attack by the Hamas, on the occupying army, on an occupied land, as retaliation for the latest three attacks by the Israeli army that killed kids and woman. You are probably also supporting the demand by Hamas to relies all the minors (again kids) and woman who are in prison of the corrupt Israeli government.

I love you blithering idiots who use terms like "occupying" facist, killed 7000, 1million dah dah

I have been in both the West Bank and Israel and your words against Israel show me how ignorisis you all are.

Both sides have issues but this place is nothing more than a continuation of the " Protocols of the Elders of Zion CLUB "

Get a friggin history book and try really honestly researching your data instead of believing all this crap from this blog which is derived from a few who have their own personel vendettas and hatreds.
by you're not getting it
Those extra-judicial assasinations aren't illegal per international law because the PA has refused to prosecute the assassinated and every effort Israel expended to apprehend them failed. Land theft doesn't happen. Baby murder certainly not, unless you referred to those Jewish babies murdered by the beautiful resilient people of Palestine. Resistance is supposed to target the very people who steal your land, murder your babies and demolish your house. That's not what we've seen from the gorgeous people of Palestine.
