Write-in Milk for Lt.-Gov. of California?
As safe protest against Dems' timidity?
So, queer leaders want more from the national Democratic party?
Let's face up to reality.
We queers have almost no national bargaining power
in the 2006 and 2008 elections.
Like African-Americans and Latinos/Latinas,
we know that the Republican Party despises us,
so we cannot vote Republican.
So we can either (a) vote for the Democratic nominees for major offices
(Governor, U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, President);
or (b) abstain;
or (c) vote for minor-party nominees or write-ins,
as a protest.
If we choose option (b) or (c) for a major office,
a Republican might win the office.
And even a liberal Republican would be required to aid the
major (fundi-fascist) wing of the Republican Party.
However, the November 2006 ballot will contain one opportunity for safe protest --
the useless and powerless office of Lieutenant Governor of California.
Since the office really doesn't matter,
please feel free to vote for ANYONE.
You may choose a minor-party nominee,
or even write-in Harvey Milk.
