Mobilize Immigrant Voters!

by via list
It is in this context that the Mobilize the Immigrant Vote (MIV)
California Collaborative is launching its 3rd statewide voter
mobilization effort for the upcoming 2006 elections.
Mobilize the Immigrant Vote Campaign Partners & Allies:

In the midst of historic mobilizations for immigrant rights, the MIV
Campaign is gearing up for another statewide effort to show immigrant
power at the polls!

Today we march, tomorrow we vote!

Over the past months, we have seen an unprecedented movement by
immigrant communities across the nation speaking out against
anti-immigrant legislation. Millions from Los Angeles, Milwaukee,
Chicago, Phoenix and Atlanta engaged in demonstrations urging
Washington, DC to oppose legislation that designates all undocumented
immigrants as felons. In California, thousands of immigrants in San
Francisco, Watsonville, San Jose, San Diego and other parts of the state
participated in marches, rallies, and hunger strikes. These
mobilizations remind us of key movements in our history that have
positively transformed our nation: civil rights, peace, environmental
justice and women's rights. They also showed unity, hope and an
opportunity for all immigrants to be involved in creating social change
not only at the federal level, but in California on local and state
issues, too.

It is in this context that the Mobilize the Immigrant Vote (MIV)
California Collaborative is launching its 3rd statewide voter
mobilization effort for the upcoming 2006 elections. Our efforts focus
on developing a multi-ethnic coalition of community-based organizations
working within immigrant communities and building their capacity to
register, educate, and mobilize their constituents for electoral
participation. The Collaborative also seeks to link electoral issues and
engagement to the ongoing social justice work of grassroots immigrant
communities - whether it's improving the working conditions of domestic
workers through state legislation or meeting with city officials to
ensure local agencies provide accessible services.
