EU-US Free Trade Area?
THE REASONS WHY WE OPPOSE IT!
Wednesday 31st May, 2006, 9:30
European Parliament, Press Room
(Interpretation: EN, FR, DE)
The debate and vote on the Mann report on EU-US Economic Relations is on the agenda for the European Parliament's Brussels plenary session this week. This report includes a proposal to establish “a barrier-free transatlantic market by 2015”.
For us, an EU-US barrier-free market must not be imposed by business interests without proper consultation with citizens. This proposal constitutes a threat to the development of the EU, its legislation, and to the advancement of a more social and environmentally-friendly Europe.
Speakers:
Marc Fichers (Nature et Progrès)
Gérard Choplin (Coordination Paysanne Européenne)
Cristina Garcia (COAG)
Christophe Ventura (ATTAC)
Marc Raoul Jennar (URFIG and Fondation Copernic)
