Urge the Governor to Reconsider Promised Veto of Bill to Ensure Inclusive History in

Action Alert!
May 26, 2006
We URGENTLY need your help in urging Governor Schwarzenegger to reconsider his
intention to veto SB 1437, a bill authored by Senator Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica)
and sponsored by Equality California, that would ensure inclusive and bias-free
curriculum in California schools.
The governor is playing election-year politics on the backs of lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Californians. We need to let him know his tactics
are unacceptable!
You can help to counteract the vocal opposition of the right-wing minority and let
the governor know that a majority of fair-minded Californians support inclusive and
bias-free curriculum.
Here are two ways you can help:
First, please TAKE ACTION today by asking the Governor to reconsider his position.
Reply to this email if you are a member of our Advocacy Center to send a letter (see
letter below) to the governor asking him to reconsider his position and urge him to
stand for the principles of inclusion and equality. If you are not a member of our
Advocacy Center, please join today (http://www.eqca.org/takeaction) so that you may
take this important action.
Or, second, you can call his capitol or district offices at:

RE: Please Reconsider Position Against SB 1437
Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,
As a constituent who cares deeply about equality for all Californians, I urge you to
reconsider your position against SB 1437, the Bias-Free Curriculum Act, authored by
Senator Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica). Research shows that students who attend
schools with an inclusive curriculum-free of bias and including the contributions of
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in our society-have an increased sense
of belonging, experience less harassment, and are less likely to skip school.
Support safe schools for all by supporting SB 1437.
Thank you for your reconsideration of this vital legislation that will help to end
discrimination and ensure equality for all California's youth.
Sincerely,
(Sender's Name)
