Cindy Sheehan Endorses Todd Chretien for U.S. Senate

A little more than two hours ago in San Francisco the antiwar activist Cindy Sheehan endorsed Green Party candidate Todd Chretien for U.S. Senate. Calling Democrats and Republicans two sides of the same coin-- Sheehan said she would no longer hold her nose at the ballot box and will now only vote for candidates who share her values.

Just after 8 pm this evening before a modest but admiring audience at the First Unitarian Universalist Church in San Francisco, Cindy Sheehan endorsed Green Party candidate Todd Chretien's run against incumbent Dianne Feinstein in this year's California U.S. Senate race.

Sheehan's speech followed several others given for the occasion of protesting war and celebrating May 1st protests by immigrants.

Many had hoped earlier this year that the San Francisco Bay Area native might herself run against Feinstein-- but the once self-described Democrat Sheehan proved reluctant even as her relationship with leaders in her party soured.

She said that Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Dianne Feinstein have rubber-stamped everything that George Bush stands for-- and implored San Franciscans to help fire them from their jobs.
