What are you asking for MONEY for?
And why no mention of the original May 1st call to action (nohr4437.org)???
by hmmmm
This looks like a san mateo green party front. The web site linked to is the registered to the same person as runs the gpsmc.

Oakland? where?
by huh?
So, praytell, who are all the religious, community, union, civic, and student organizations for all of northern california?

And why are you stealing the name of the May 1st Coalition that has existed for years - and where have you been during those years?

And you want us to believe this isn't a front group for the ISO/Green Party?

Why should we support this group when there are actual radical and grassroots organizations doing work around this strike?

What are you really trying to do - sell some more papers and hope to co-opt this movement, a la ANSWER?

In response to the above (anonymous) accusations:

1. The May 1st Coalition is simply named after the date of the protest that dozens of organizations and Latino small businesses are helping organize and support.

2. The money goes for a stage and sound system that can reach 100,000 people as well as for porta-potties that are required by the city. If the coalition breaks even, it will be a miracle.

3. http://www.nohr4437.org is a very good site, which we have widely publicized.

4. The idea that May 1st is a Green Party of San Mateo or ISO front is really foolish. I suggest you call all the numbers listed on the announcement to check. You'll reach Miguel Araujo, Maria Hall, Ramon Cardona and Yolanda Mendoza from Centro Azteca, 1010AM, the FMLN, and St. Elizabeth Church respectively. Yes, members of the Green Party and the ISO are helping organize, shouldn't everyone?

5. Rather than wasting time on these rumors that are either begun by the police, or at least are very useful to the police, I'd suggest everyone download the flyer (or other flyers from other groups calling for May 1st actions) and begin organizing.

The money is for a stage and a sound system? Please. That is not what was said at your
very own "planning" (really, a volunteer recruitment meeting) meeting at SEIU last week.
Peter Camejo was there, and the MC introduced him as the "money man", and Peter sheepishly
grinned at the reference and talked about raising money for a "movement going well
beyond May 1st".

C'mon Todd. You know, you were sitting next to him. Plus, we know these rallies, with
the money barrels and all, they easily break even, even after paying for a permit.
Are you paying for a permit? Are you are going to milk undocumented people and give
their money to the government? If so it would be pretty ironic. Poor
people of color paying white politicians to talk at them, and paying the
government to protest its criminalization of them.

Also, it is sad that nowhere on ANY of your flyers is there ANY mention to
the original callout for May 1st from the folks in LA, or their points of unity,
which were no school, no work, no buying, no selling and have rallies around points
of economic significance.

"http://www.nohr4437.org is a very good site,
which we have widely publicized."

Instead of just explaining why your "Coalition"
decided to ignore the original May 1 call's
points of unity (and there may be good reasons,
and hey, it might have even been an oversight,
who knows why you did it), instead you insist that
you in fact ARE supporting and publicizing that call.

But look at your own primerodemayo.org website,
no link to nohr4437.org.

Then download and read your own flyers,
no references at all to un dia sin immigrante,
el gran paro, general strike, economic
boycott. nada.

Maybe you have "principled" reasons for being
hierarchical, vanguardist, and domineering in
your organizing. But I can't figure out why
once you make a decision like this, you can't
just tell people why you made it, instead of lying
to them and insisting that it never happened?
by deanosor (deanosor [at] comcast.net)
No red or green-baiting (I believe everybody should support MayDay). But why is this group not mentioning the Strike and Boycott? It's not in their announcement or on their website?
by marc
The ISO is playing substitutionism with the Greens, just as they are trying to hijack immigrant sentiment for their own ends.

Greens don't do front group politics.

The Trotskyite, Leninist ISO does do front group politics.

We Greens are what we are.

The ISO is what it is.

Simply because their west coast organizer has exercised his rights under the law to register Green and run for our Senate ballot line does not mean that the Green Party as an activist party is allied in any way with the ISO.

Many of us have learned the failings of sectarian leftism and that is why we are Greens. As usual, the sectarian left, unable to generate any energy on their own, seeks to usurp the energy generated by others towards the service of its politburo ("center") in Chicago.
