One of the two owners of the DC9 (tail number N900SA)* busted at an airport in the Yucatan last week after lumbering in from Caracas, Venezuela carrying an astonishing 5.5 TONS of cocaine was appointed in 1993 to the Business Advisory Council of the National Republican Congressional Committee by then-Congressional Majority Leader Tom Delay, The MadCowMorningNews  can exclusively report.

The plane's other registered owner, ''Royal Sons LLC,'' a Florida air charter company, was at one time housed in a hanger at the Venice Fl. Airport owned by infamous flight school Huffman Aviation.

Of major significance is the fact that photos of the DC9, seized last Monday in Ciudad del Carmen, reveal that the plane is painted with the distinctive blue and white color color scheme of official U.S. Government planes.*

Moreover, to reinforce the effect, or subterfuge, the plane carries an official-looking Seal painted on its side, which reads:  SKY WAY AIRCRAFT, PROTECTION OF AMERICA'S SKIES, around an image of a federal eagle clutching the familiar olive branch in its talons.

Many have been fooled into concluding that the plane belongs to the U.S. Transportation Security Administration.

The obvious and highly serious national security implications of this go well beyond the obvious glee in playing political "gotcha" with people caught face-down with their noses buried, Tony Montana-style, in over five and a half tons of cocaine.

Rainforest Action Network and a global movement of grassroots activists and allies are targeting Weyerhaeuser, one of the world’s largest and most destructive logging companies. Weyerhaeuser, a $19 billion company, is a top logger and distributor of endangered forest products from North America, South America, Australia, and the Pacific Rim.

Our Earth’s forests are in state of crisis. We've already lost 80% of old-growth forests worldwide and less than 5% remain in the United States. According to the United Nations, at least 37.5 million acres of rainforests are lost annually, an area the size of England, Wales and Scotland combined. Watch as the CEO and Chairman of Limited Brands, Victoria’s Secret’s parent company, claims to be “relentless about trying to do the right thing” for the environment. Check out his greenwashing video where he also says that, “on the priority of right things to do, one of them is to be a good steward of the environment.”

With a million catalogs mailed daily, the majority of which come from virgin fiber, it seems that Victoria’s Secret’s real priority is environmental destruction.

In early January, the Limited informed ForestEthics that it is moving it Victoria's Secret's clearance catalogs, (which account for approximately 10% of its overall catalogs,) to a high post-consumer recycled content paper. This move is in direct response to our campaign. This first step must be a precursor toward shifting the remaining approximately 90% of Victoria's Secret's catalogs to high post-consumer recycled paper that does not come from Endangered Forests, and we will continue campaigning to that end.

Esther Dyson

Esther Dyson is editor of Release 1.0, CNET's quarterly
technology-industry newsletter, and host of its PC Forum,
the high-tech market's leading annual executive conference.
She sold her business, EDventure Holdings, to CNET Networks
in early 2004. Previously, she had co-owned EDventure and
written/edited Release 1.0 since 1983. She was also an
early board member of EFF and its chairman from July 1995
to January 1998 and was founding chairman of ICANN
(1998-2000). The author of the book "Release 2.0: A design
for living in the digital age," which suggested a sender-pays
model for e-mail in 1997, Dyson also recently wrote a New York
Times op-ed called "You've Got Goodmail," supporting a voluntary

Mitch Kapor

Mitchell Kapor is the President and Chair of the Open Source
Applications Foundation, a non-profit organization he
founded in 2001 to promote the development and acceptance of
high-quality application software developed and distributed
using open source methods and licenses. He is widely known
as the founder of Lotus Development Corporation and the
designer of Lotus 1-2-3, the "killer application" which made
the personal computer ubiquitous in the business world in

# Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi Hosts Art Opening Of Riley McFerrin’s Work

On Friday, April 21, 2006, Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi hosts the monthly
Third Friday’s Art Reception in his City Hall office, Room 282. In honor of
the 35th Anniversary of Earth Day taking place on April 22, this month’s
featured artist is Riley McFerrin.

In this new body of work titled "Let Outside Inside", San Francisco artist
Riley McFerrin takes a closer look at the growing divide between people and
nature by combining both naturally occurring and synthetic materials in
unexpected and symbolic ways.

This body of work evokes our awkward and often helpless interactions with
nature, and contemplates life in an age where our tools of survival are no
longer as closely connected to the natural world as they used to be.

Riley McFerrin's studio is located in Hayes Valley. His works have been

# Call for Direct Action Against World Bank and IMF Meetings, April 21-23
This Spring, Paul Wolfowitz, the President of the World Bank Group and
the architect of the War in Iraq, will be convening the biannual
meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF),
bringing together at the table the two capitalist tools of global
exploitation -- the wars of military might with the strangleholds of
economic imperialism. The World Bank and the IMF, which have been the
principal players in the economic devastation of the Global South
through Structural Adjustment Programs (currently referred to as
Poverty
Reduction Strategy Papers), will meet again in downtown Washington, DC
to schmooze with the private sector, laugh in the face of the world's
poor, and live off the fat of other people's land.

This year, however, we are going to force them to see the resistance
that is alive in our hearts, in our minds and across the globe. Seeing
our faces, or ours masks as the case may be, will be a requisite part
of
their weekend activities. We will be at their doorsteps, behind their

Friday, April 21st- Evening Spokes Council - Gather with other individuals
and affinity groups to strategize and plan actions for the weekend. Time
to be announced. Place: The convergence center at St. Stephens Church,

Saturday, April 22nd- We are organizing a day of trainings (at the
convergence center) to be followed by an evening of action. While the
goons of capitalist exploitation plot their schemes behind closed doors,
we will prepare ourselves for effective and safe resistance. From legal
trainings to guerrilla street theater, affinity group training to an
orientation on DC community struggles, we will gather our tools and
CONFRONT THE DELEGATES AND THEIR CORPORATE FRIENDS ON SATURDAY FOLLOWING
THE TRAININGS. If they want to eat, drink, and be merry on the backs of
billions worldwide, they will do so in the face of our resistance.

Sunday, April 23rd- Day of autonomous direct action. Keep the pressure on
the individuals who power the machine of global exploitation. Let them

Come explore contact improvisation in the aquatic
environment! Find a new relationship to water, dance
and connection with others. We will play, dance and
delight each other with movement both on land and in
the water. Dance in the water becomes dream time and
altered states and on land we deepen our feeling of
the earth body. You will learn principles for dancing
with another in water. Our dance will be supported by
experiential play with energy, intuition and presence
exercises both on land and in water.

About Inika: She has been teaching aquatic bodywork,
both Healing Dance and Watsu since 1999 and has been
playing with contact
improvisation in the water for 9 years. She recently
taught Aquatic Contact Dance at the Dance Festivals
held at Harbin.

About Samantha: She has been teaching Contact
Improvisation, Dharma Dance and Yoga all over the
world for the last 12 years. Her passion is Peace in
Embodied States. She experiences dance as an
extroadinairy vehicle for manifesting unity in
diversity and a feeling presence of peace and oneness.

# Art at the Dump Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 5pm-9pm and 1pm-5pm free

Artists use garbage to create and inspire us to be less wasteful -
that is the aim of Norcal Waste Systems' Artist In Residence Program.
Work by Sarah Barsness and Ed Clapp will be on exhibit at a free
reception on Friday, April 21st from 5 to 9 p.m. and again on
Saturday, April 22nd from 1 to 5 p.m. at the art studio at SF
Recycling & Disposal's at 503 Tunnel Avenue in San Francisco.
This exhibit is the climax of a unique residency where both Ed and
Sarah scavenged through San Francisco's very own detritus. Ed and
Sarah had the opportunity to collect all of their art materials from
the public disposal area and the salvaged items that they found were
used to construct and to inspire their artwork.
Ed worked mostly with wood and created sculptures "that will
hopefully inspire people to look and to feel deeply." Ed explains, "
I work with the detritus of our consumerist, 'throwaway' culture. I
hope to find creative uses for trash that will make people more aware
of material that we use in daily life."
Each artist gathered very different materials reflecting the
differing themes in their work. Ed's show titled, "Redemption",
signifies the ability to "redeem" discarded materials and make them
new again. He was interested in returning the materials back to a
natural, organic form to remind us from where our raw materials come.
Sarah collected fabric, umbrellas, nylons and buttons to create
colorful web-like pieces. "The challenge of making art with found
objects is that the objects must tell you what they want to become;
they cannot be forced to cooperate with some preconceived notion. It
requires patience, faith and a deep sensitivity to the significance
and potential of each object. It also requires time."
Sarah's show titled "Fugitive" is in reference to the ephemeral,
tenuous, constantly shifting and fleeing nature of both objects and
the self and their close relationship to the seductive and
overwhelming power of memory. According to Sarah. "Objects seem to
move so quickly from being essential and treasured to being useless
and burdensome. Retrieving discarded objects shifted them once again
to a level of value and meaning."
The program was initiated in 1990 by the joint efforts of artist Jo
Hanson, the City of San Francisco and the company to spur people to
conserve natural resources and to instill in children and adults
increased appreciation for the environment as well as art. More than
55 artists have completed residencies.
Bay Area artists apply for the very competitive dump residencies.
Those selected by a nine-member advisory board are handed the keys to
a 2,200-square-foot art studio and given access to San Francisco's
garbage and recycling facilities.
Art from the program is displayed in local schools and in public
spaces. Many participating artists also make a permanent piece for
the 3-acre sculpture garden on the hillside above the San Francisco
Transfer Station, where 2,100 tons of landfill-bound trash is dumped,
crushed by bulldozers and top-loaded into 18-wheelers five days a week.


Each day, trucks drop their hauls from San Francisco at the garbage
and recycling complex at Tunnel Avenue and Beatty Road. To residents
and businesses the truckloads amount to rubbish; to artists the daily
deliveries are a tremendous source of art materials.
