This year is the 60th anniversary of the Oakland general strike. It was touched off when striking
store clerks won the support of Oakland transit workers who shut down the transit system in
solidarity.
It was the last general strike in the United States.
The KPFA Labor Collective http://www.kpfalaborcollective.org in conjuncition with Laborfest http://www.laborfest.net is organizing several
labor events to commemorate this important event during July 2006 including a film screening,
music, a maritime boat tour, walking tour and bicyle tour of the strike location sites.
