Date: Thursday, March 2, 2006
Time: 7:30 PM
Location: City of Albany Council Chambers, 1000 San Pablo Avenue

Subject: Proposed plan to locate a Burrowing Owl Habitat on the Albany
Plateau

On March 2, 2006, the Albany Waterfront Committee will review draft
plans for a proposed burrowing owl habitat to be located at the Albany
Plateau. The proposed plan would result in the creation of a protected
area (fenced off) for burrowing owls. The size of the protected area
would comprise about 10 acres of this approximately 20-acre site.

Please Fwd. this along. The City of Albany is sending me updates direct
in order to get people to these meetings that effect the Waterfront. The
owls habitat may seem like a small thing but its not.

Something to think about - if the mall goes in they are only offering
6.4 acres for park in their proposal. The Owl Habitat is proposed for
10 acres on the Albany Plateau, there is no guarantee that the owls will
come to the area or stay. Another piece of their discussions is whether
a walking trail should extend around the plateau or should the habitat
cut it off. If the mall comes is where and how they choose to place
this habitat can seriously effect Waterfront usage for hikers etc. So,
if you have any thoughts on the matter either way - NOW is the time to
get involved.
