(btw, News Junkie Scott recently rewatched the famous Borg-McEnroe 1980 Wimbledon final. I saw it live on TV as a teenager. I remembered Bud Collins as way over-the-top with his commentary. However, in retrospect my memory was faulty. Collins did a superior job calling it.

The fourth and fifth sets of this Grand Slam final are unbelievable. Mac saved 7 match points before finally succombing.

With Borg serving, Mac was down 6-5, 40-15 in the fourth and refused to lose. He came up with four sensational points to pull the fourth set into a tie-break. From there, Mac won 18-16, with almost every point a great shot from either Borg or Mac.

In the fifth set Mac twice battled back from 0-40 service games. However, Borg played almost a perfect set. He had virtually no unforced errors and no points lost on his serve in the fifth.

Their styles were in complete contrast. Borg, more comfortable from the baseline, was impossibly attractive and his footwork was astonishing. Mac possessed unbelievable attacking skills and second-to-none net play. Bjorn was an athletic ideal while Mac was blessed with enormous talent.

Visually, tennis was never more thrilling than when these two dueled on Wimbledon's center court using wooden racquets.)
