Bush and Republicans Desecrate Coretta Scott King's Memory

by reposts
I was inspired by the Coretta Scott King funeral. The Republicans who complain about politics intruding on the service must have missed the point of her life. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy is one of nonviolence and civil rights; it puts President Bush's war on terror and his budget priorities to shame.

Please, Politicize My Funeral
by SusanG
Tue Feb 07, 2006 at 11:34:45 PM PDT

Not only do these hypocritical conservatives want to step in and tell me and my family that I can be kept alive for years against my wishes, a petri dish harboring their precious "culture of life," now they want to control the "message" at my funeral. Well ... I've got news for them. It's time they shut their yaps, this GOP party of control freaks extraordinaire.

Not that I plan on departing anytime soon, but today's hyped-up, hand-wringing caterwauling about the "politicizing" of Coretta Scott King's funeral makes me inclined to officially endorse any political use that can be made of my death. Just to piss them off, you know. (As one is in life, I'm assuming one will be in the hereafter.)

Snappy O'Beirne on Coretta Scott King's funeral

Snappy.jpg" Listening to Snappy O'Beirne's false indignation over Reverend Lowry's speech is enough to make "Forrest Gump Mirengoff" get acid reflux. Well, maybe not him, but how low is Hardball sinking to have on a person that's not going to offer any type of feedback other than contempt? Never mind that she had the nerve to utter the name Paul Wellstone.

Chris Matthews should be ashamed of himself because he stood there mute as she danced all over Jimmy Carter's reputation because he broached a subject that Correta knew all too well. You used to work for him-remember?

--StartFragment the to objected she because indignation false Beirne?s> Reverend Lowry spoke out during Correta King's funeral is enough to even give "Forrest Gump Mirengoff," heartburn. Well, maybe not him. The bile level was raised as soon as she mentioned Paul Welstone's name. Chris Matthews should be ashamed of himself to have a woman like Snappy on as an analyst -first because she hates anything truly feminine and second- because he stood there mute, while she smeared Jimmy Carter, his old boss. Carter talking about wiretapping is as relevant today as it was when the government tried to hurt the King's with it. There were no loyalty Bush pledges at this function and that's why the advice he received was to stay away.

Digby:

Kate O'Beirne isn't fit to wipe Coretta Scott King's shoes and criticizing her on the day of her memorial service is disgusting. What kind of unfeeling ghouls have Republicans become? Oh and I think they need to apologize to the Reverend Lowry. He is a man of the cloth and a friend of the deceased. Are they saying that leaders of the African American church are less worthy of respect than the white churches they are so proud of representing? It sure sounds like it. Republicans, it seems, only respect the church when its leaders "behave" the way they deem appropriate...read on "

Let me put this simply: Kate O'Beirne needs to shut her filthy mouth. When black people were dying in New Orleans, they called us everything but a child of God. We were animals, looters, out of control. ...read on

It's nice to know that whenever MSNBC needs something said that is so ugly, so fulminatingly rancid and dog-whistle racist that even Bill Bennett will not show up and do the honors that a vile, bilious hatchet-faced nag like Kate O'Beirne is always at the ready....read on

The wingnut’s feigned outrage over the comments today is just another example of them attempting to quash dissent/debate. Same thing with the tired old, “you just hate bush” bullshit. They have nothing valid to say, so they just can’t wait to point out how much your opinions hurt their poor, little feelings. They bluster so that maybe you’ll stop talking, and instead, try to make them feel better about all the immoral bullshit they support.

They are weak people; and they cannot lead. They cannot take criticism, and they dare not think critically for themselves.

See, it’s not in their best interest to address the actual points being made (that of continued social injustice, and a war built on lies), at a funeral for a civil rights activist and anti-war figure no less. So, they scream “no fair”, “distasteful”, etc. (As if they didn’t fuck Reagan’s corpse for a month straight.)

The comments got a standing ovation. Did anything Bush say do the same? No? If he’s hated, it’s not simply because of who he is, but rather what he has done (and not done, right).

I would hope these “compassionate” conservatives would just cease the pathetic whining and actually try to change the perception black America has of them by advocating policy that improves their lives, but instead, since they simply don’t care….they’d rather us focus on their own discomfort at having cold reality pointed out to them.

Party of no ideas, indeed.
