Protesting what he describes as "unlawful and inexcusable" exclusion from SBCC's Wake Center, Santa Barbara activist has again fasted through a holiday and studied Ghandian nonviolence. Here he releases a short poem written "to gird up for the struggle in 2006."
Author's Note:
In keeping with the holiday spirit, I am not going into the Byzantine legal issues occasioned by the barbarous conduct of the bureacracy at SBCC. Rather, I am observing a fast, which is of course not the same as a hunger strike and is not intended as such, consistent with the principles of the great Mohatma. Here is a humble contribution to the interpretation of Ghandi which I hope, despite the controversy, is reckoned as a contribution to the cultural development of Santa Barbara California, where I am fortunate to be working on free speech and nonviolence theory."

Interpreting Line 56

The sage's mind held still in peaceful calm
Despite all good or ill, set free from thought
Of person, ego, benefit or fame
For self or even justice, such is nought.

With focused mind one dwells with God
And feels no pain in losing trifling things
Awareness of and through the Godhead is
The bell through which trandscendent Spirit rings.
