Nearly a thousand people gathered at the gates of San Quentin prison this morning in order to stop the scheduled December 13 execution of Stan “Tookie” Williams. Speakers included rapper Snoop Dog, Fred Hampton Jr., representatives of the Nation of Islam, religious forces, and grassroots anti-death penalty activists from across the California. A few speakers noted that our government is waging an immoral war abroad in Iraq, and is now planning to kill a leading “peace maker” at home. Many individuals in Not in Our Name believe that state sponsored killing is only one of many injustices being carried out in our name today. Not in our name.
