Trinity County Medical Marijuana Patient Turned Over to Feds for Prosecution

Another California patient has been federally charged for growing
medical marijuana. Vern Rylee, 61, was snatched out of state court
in Trinity County on 10/18/05, where he was awaiting trial with his
wife, Janet, on cultivation charges. The Rylees had been arrested in
2003 for a sizable outdoors grow; they were re-arrested the next
year after deliberately replanting another garden in public view.
While awaiting trial, they were arrested once again, this time for a
personal use garden of approximately ten plants. The Trinity County
DA dismissed Janet, but hauled Vernon away to jail in Sacramento to face
federal charges. Rylee is very ill and might have staged a
compelling defense in state court. Unfortunately, our grim
upholders of law and order could not bear the prospect of
another MMJ patient escaping prison.
