Oct. 11, 2005 Supreme Court denies two California death penalty appeals By Howard Mintz San Jose Mercury News The U.S. Supreme Court today turned away the final appeals of two California death row inmates, setting the stage for what could be the busiest year in San Quentin's execution chamber since the state restored capital punishment in 1978. In one of the cases, the justices refused to review the case of Stanley ``Tookie'' Williams, a Los Angeles gang leader who has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize on several occasions for his work fighting youth gangs over the past decade. Williams, on death row for three 1979 murders, now must hope for clemency from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who faces his toughest test to date on his views on the death penalty. A federal appeals court earlier this year rejected Williams' legal appeals, although a number of judges dissented, saying they were concerned his trial had been tainted by racial issues in jury selection. But the Supreme Court, without comment, denied Williams' attempt to revive his appeal. The Supreme Court also Tuesday refused to hear the final appeals of Michael Angelo Morales, sentenced to die in 1983 for the torture and murder of a young San Joaquin County woman. A Ventura County jury recommended the death penalty for Morales, whose case was moved because of concern about pretrial publicity in San Joaquin. With Morales and Williams now facing execution dates early next year, California is confronting the prospect of three executions in 2006 -- which would be the most since the state resumed the death penalty decades ago. The Supreme Court last week rejected the final appeal of Clarence Ray Allen, a 75-year-old inmate on death row for more than twenty years for orchestrating four central valley murders. There are more than 640 inmates on death row, but California has had just 11 executions since 1978. Stefanie L. It is Death Penalty Democrat Attorney General Bill Lockyer who is actively promoting the death penalty, and it is Republican Governor Schwarzenegger, just like his predecessor, Democratic Governor Davis, who actively supports the death penalty and the prison-concentration camp system. Davis is married to a Republican and Schwarzenegger is married to a Democrat. We can see there is no difference between the twin parties of capitalism., both being death penalty parrties Only the socialist Peace & Freedom Party and the Green Party are opposed to the death penalty and demand that is representatives hold the same position. All of Europe has abolished the death penalty; this barbarism is worthy of a backward peasant country, which the US is.

 jackchickleft.jpg I do not know what Tookie did or did not do. I have suffered horrible abuses under the regime in power.
I would rather have nuclear holocaust than serve one second in their prisons. Of course on a smaller scale, I would rather fight their head honcho to the death, but he is an electronic version of a man who was allegedly named Bush. The lie of America is that the lie has been exposed. The West Coast and East Coast came together, and with it, our nightmares and wanting a global war in the more impoverished and abused sectors such as the South Eastern United States. Lets not let Tookies life and good works slip by us all, in the darkness of biased corporate media coverage. He made mistakes as we all do, and he has learned from them. Help him help other youths from making the same mistakes he did. Please, sign this petition and email Governor Schwarzenegger

I hope the story of tookie inspires more gang members to switch to a more meaning full life. The simple things in life are what we take for granted. Don't take them for granted.

If the Death Penalty was implemented as it was intended, fairly, impartially and swiftly, there would not be hundreds on death row. Those that choose to live in a manner befitting execution would go to where the penalty is less.
The death penalty in California has been inneffective as a deterrent due to it's limited use.... the sooner the sentence is carried out, the better for all. Capital offenders in California know that they will live for decades... so they continue to offend until they strike out. Swift justice is just. Exact Revenge

Tookie was a different man after 20+ years in prison. He went in as a messed up young man, and went out a developed old man, who should have been left alive.
That is the way it is. Protect your children. Take them from public schools and try to get family and friends with educations to teach. This is where red met red, tookie's blood and mine, by the same needles. I was forced injections when running for my life. You are better off to train your children and pull them from the federal governments contact. Merry Christmas to Tookie's family and I hope the cycles of despair are broken, for his family and mine and yours. |
