A bay area activist relief caravan to Louisiana, also known as the Bay to Gulf Peoples Pipeline, has been in New Orleans since Sept. 12th. The caravan includes physicians, EMTs, and body workers who have teamed up with DC's Mayday Medical Collective to provide health services for residents in the Algiers neighborhood, as part of the Common Ground Wellness Center. West coast IMCistas are also on the scene gathering photo and radio reports. A brand new community radio station called "The Battle for Algiers" is on the air at 94.5 FM.Bay Area Radical Health Collective (BARHC) medics are treating about 50 people per day, many with chronic conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. Yesterday, Cindy Sheehan, from Camp Casey, visited Algiers with a team of media, and global justice reporter Naomi Klein was also there. In other news, hip hop reporter Rosa Clemente was released after being arrested in Baton Rouge for reporting on conditions in hurricane shelters.
