Trent Lott's home destroyed by major act of God

"He's been told there's nothing left" of the 154-year-old house, said Susan Irby, a spokeswoman for the Republican senator. "They [Lott and his family] plan to go out to see if they can recover any valuables."

Lott had owned the house, where his children grew up, for at least 20 years, Irby said.

Lott's wife, Tricia, told him the news Monday night after riding out the storm in their house in Jackson. She said Lott was in Jackson Tuesday and planned to return to his Pascagoula property later in the day.
