This Saturday’s rally/vigil supporting Cindy Sheehan and her anti-war efforts in Crawford, Texas will be the grand finale of a series of rallies that have been held at 16th & Broadway in Sacramento supporting Ms. Sheehan.
“Showing our support for Cindy this Saturday will be particularly important because that's the day that a right wing caravan arrives in Crawford to harass Cindy's support group,” according to Stephen Pearcy, an organizer of the Saturday rallies.
Pearcy added, “It’s also important because it’s our last opportunity to show solidarity before Cindy leaves Crawford next week.”
On Monday, August 22, Karen Bernal, chair of Sacramento for Democracy, made her second trip to Crawford to join Cindy Sheehan in her vigil outside President Bush's ranch.
Bernal's husband, Bill Lackemacher, will join other local supporters of Sheehan's mission this Saturday, August 27, at the 6:30-9pm demonstration at 16th & Broadway in Sacramento.
"Many Americans are now realizing that we were lied into this war,” said Lackemacher. “Cindy has helped bring the realities of the Iraq war and occupation back into the headlines where they belong,” he added. “We want to know what ‘noble cause’ our soldiers are dying for.”
Bernal is also working with a Sacramento coalition effort to get the Sacramento City Council to adopt a resolution asking Congress and the President to immediately withdraw U.S. troops and bases from Iraq.
For more information about the local action, contact Stephen Pearcy, 916-444-8314; stephen.pearcy [at] sbcglobal.net.
Karen Bernal can be reached in Texas at 916-812-1793.
