Ringling Bros Circus in Oakland 8-21-05: the animals and the painful irony
The circus calls this area their Animal House. It's where the animals are kept in between their once- or twice-a-day performance routines.
The circus has now moved to San Jose and will be in San Francisco next week. Animal activists from all over are encouraged to help keep the heat on Ringling and its parent company, Feld Entertainment, to drop the use of animals in their live shows. Please, help leaflet one or more days listed below while the circus is still in town. Complete schedule for leafleting Bay Area Ringling appearances:
Zebras stripes do not blend in with the stripes on the coliseum parking lot
Why does Ringling think camels are suited for pens in parking lots?
Llamas with goats behind them
How does a highly sociable animal like being in a small pen?
Horses, two deep and about 6 or seven long
The elephants were not seen playing or smiling
Not much room for natural behavior
Why does this elephant have a star on its backside?
Three of many were allowed to leave their cages for this small enclosure
Does it matter what tigers are well equiped to do when they live lives like these?
The watchers followed this cameraperson all over coliseum grounds
Man in red cap had videocamera to record activists for Ringling's files and man in blue shirt seemed to be in charge of security outside of the circus itself.
