A SOCIAL STRIKE IS COMING

Hundreds of thousands of us rely on MUNI for transportation and jobs, but the city wants to raise fares, layoff workers, and cut service. The city expects us - working class people - to pay more for less. But this time we plan to fight back!

Starting on SEPTEMBER 1, we will stop paying for public transit. Our strike will last until MUNI repeals the fare hike and reverses all service cuts and layoffs. Together - riders and drivers - we will force the city to back down.

JOIN THE STRIKE

Everyone is a participant. The key is workers and riders acting in concert - drivers (and station agents) don't collect fares, and riders don't pay them. Other than our refusal to pay fares, MUNI will operate as normal.

Riders: When you board MUNI, acknowledge the driver, and let them know that you are participating in the fare strike. Don't antagonize them. If you can't board for free, consider paying a partial fare (a few nickels or dimes). If you can get a transfer, give it to another passenger when you get off the MUNI.

Drivers and Station Agents: you know the system best. Talk to other drivers about the strike. Help riders strike by refusing to collect.

SPREAD THE STRIKE

This is a grassroots effort, and we need to get the word out as widely as possible. Everyone who hears about the strike should "PASS IT ON" to someone new! So when you inform people about the strike, make sure to do two things: 1) Tell them what the strike is and how it works. 2) Ask them to tell at least 5 MORE people about the strike.

Also, if you can help with any of the following tasks, then please contact us: Put up posters or stickers * Ride MUNI in small outreach teams, hand out leaflets, talk to people about the strike * Help set up and staff an information table * Make copies of materials * Distribute printed materials * Provide legal services * Help us call and email participants * Provide translation services * Provide meeting space
