Racist anti-Mexican hate mail received at IMC office in SF

by imcista
A typed hate-mail letter from "G.R.O.M." (Get Rid of Mexicans) was received today at the SF Bay Area IMC office in San Francisco. The letter included a pile of cut-up INS, California, and Mexican ID cards belonging to residents of San Jose, Redwood City, Gilroy, and San Francisco.

The letter was mailed to the Indymedia office perhaps in response to Indybay's recent coverage of the activities of racist vigilante groups operating particularly in southern California. "G.R.O.M." claims to have "hundreds" of similar ID cards and threatens to "keep taking them."

We have blacked out photographs and identifying information.
§The letter has a presumably false return address

The return address is that of the Mexican Consulate in San Jose, California.

A Google search does not immediately reveal much information about a "G.R.O.M." group.

Where did they get all these ID card? Did they steal them? Is there a staute against destorying some ones ID?

Normally I might say call the police, but they might use the call to attack IMC.

So maybe call the NLG

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Most immigrants I've met have a much more impressive mastery of the english language than the incoherent rant this racist cooked up.

If English was a requirement for citizenship, this guy would get deported.
by LOL! The idiot can't even spell!!!
This guy is an oaf.

Because the letter was addressed to the "embassy de Mexico," I passed it along to the Mexican Consulate in San Francisco. If your ID is pictured you can contact Carolina Ayala in community affairs at (415) 354-1700. I also tried to reach the consulate in San Jose but was only able to leave a voice-mail.
It's always been that way, sadly enough. You might want someone to actually go there in person.

Once someone sent me a copy of a anti-interracial dating flyers anonymously, when I lived in a more european city to the north, and I was trying to figure out who could have sent it, but it's impossible. It could even be someone who got ahold of a voter's list. My downstairs neighbor has received in excess of 200 postcards... one every three days for years, from the neighbor who has schizophrenia. He criticizes his appearance and makes antigay epithets and uses lots of unusual acronyms, and called the police and falsely reported him as a heroin dealer. But you have to be able to prove that the person sent it.

Why can't the U.S. influence Mexico to provide jobs and pay a decent wage for their own people? Why do the poor workers just quietly accept the greedy 10 percent of their country that have all the wealth and not demand justice? Why is this disparity permitted while the rich in Mexico keep the masses entertained with tacky TV programs, cheap liquor, and other illegal mind alterations. Crossing to the US is stupid. They are being cheated out of their own country, having to learn a new language ( which most don't master), and enter a country where they are not wanted. Meanwhile, the wealthy in Mexico berate the US and treat their own people like Dogs. Where is the justice? Why won't Mexicans Demand that the wealth be evenly distributed and boot these bad leaders out? It is sad that they are not united enough to do so and allow corruption of these same officials to ruin their right to a good life in their own beautiful country. Why are only an elite small percentage receiving a proper education? Standing on the city streets as illegals and begging to do part time work or day labor work in the yards of rich Texas taxpayers is not the American dream.
