Monday, July 4, 2005 http://www.forthone.co.uk The violent scenes in Edinburgh city centre are dragging on into the evening. Hundreds of anti-capitalist protestors have clashed with police([search]) for most of the day. Around 60 people have been arrested and a small number have been treated in hospital for minor injuries. It all began in the west end but then the atmosphere turned ugly and the focus moved to the East End of Princes Street. Bricks and bottles were thrown amid chaotic scenes next to the Scott Monument. There are still pockets of trouble but, at this stage, it's appears to be local youths who are confronting police. Shops pulled down their shutters as the violence erupted and trading in Edinburgh city centre is said to be down 90%.
