Congress creates National ID system.

by Jesse M.
Section 202. of H.R. 1268 sets up National ID system.
Thursday May 19, 2005

On May 10 of 2005 the House of Representatives passed a bill called H.R. 1268, which on the surface appears to be an emergency funding bill for the military. Unfortunately those who don’t dig deeper, including many congressmen, failed to notice Sec. 202. of the bill. This section, ‘short titled’ Minimum Document Requirements and Issuance Standards for Federal Recognition, effectively establishes the long debated National ID system.

Firstly this requires the states to develop a uniform standard of all identification cards that include a unified system of scanning the information. Also is the requirement for all applicants for a driver’s license or state ID to submit to facial recognition that will be placed in a database. All this information will be kept on a computer file and will be directly accessible to the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

No later than September 11, 2005 will all states be required to enter into a memorandum of understanding that the Department of Homeland Security may routinely utilize the Systemic Alien Verification for Entitlements, an automated system (created through the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 [110 Stat. 3009-664]), as a means to verify the legal status of any non-citizen applying for a driver’s license.

Also in the power of the states is to refuse the issuance of a driver’s license until such time as the person proves they have terminated their previous license. If your state fails to meet the requirements listed in the act the federal government has the right to refuse to recognize the I.D. This means if you live in Missouri and they fail below the standards you could instantly lose any federal employment and be denied access to federally regulated commercial airliners (meaning anything other than small planes, no Delta, American, or TWA.)

Personally I am disturbed by the passage of this bill, and it is expected that President Bush will sign this into law. By hiding it in a Military Emergency Appropriations bill, those who wanted a police state have effectually given themselves the means to establish it. Unfortunately we are now reaching a point of no-return as we speed ever faster into a Nationalist Police-State.

For those of you who may not believe me or want to read it for yourselves the long title of the bill and web address are as follows.

H.R. 1268. Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Defense, the Global War on Terror, and Tsunami Relief, 2005
