Act Now to Ban Pet Cloning in California

by In Defense of Animals
Despite widespread concerns about the ethics of cloning and the risks it may pose to public health, unscrupulous companies have started selling cloned cats as a way to "replicate" deceased pets. However, cloned animals are subject to abnormally high rates of miscarriage, early death, deformity, disease and other serious medical conditions. While some wealthy consumers have paid $50,000 for cloned cats, millions of healthy animals will be euthanized in shelters this year for lack of homes. Please help ban pet cloning by supporting A.B. 1428, a bill to prohibit the commercial sale and transfer of cloned or genetically modified pets within California.

Act Now to Ban Pet Cloning

Your letter will be addressed and sent to:
Your Assemblyperson (if you live in CA)

----THIS LETTER WILL BE SENT IN YOUR NAME----

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

As a Californian and animal protection advocate, I strongly support the passage of A.B. 1428, a bill to ban the retail sale of cloned and genetically modified pets.
There are several companies marketing cloned and genetically modified pets to Californians despite their inability to deliver the product would-be consumers think they're buying. Further, the scientific literature clearly indicates that cloned animals are subject to abnormally high rates of miscarriage, early death, deformity, disease and other serious medical conditions.
By one such company's own admission, up to 45% of cloned kittens die within the first four weeks of life.
Because pet cloning offers no societal benefit to justify the harm inflicted upon animals, basic ethical and scientific principles regarding the use of animals are being egregiously violated. Currently unregulated, companies that market cloned and genetically modified pets do so without any of the protections or requirements that govern other research scientists.
Since your bill, A.B. 1428, would prohibit the retail sale and transfer of cloned or genetically modified pets within California, it will protect vulnerable people from being financially exploited as they grieve over dying pets, save animals from unnecessary and cruel experimentation, and ensure that the environment and public health are not negatively impacted by unwarranted species-tinkering.
Please register my support of your effort to prohibit this unethical commercial activity in our state.

----END OF LETTER TO BE SENT----

Sincerely,
YOURNAME
