*An evening with animal rights lawyer Steven Wise*
Monday, April 25, 7:00 PM
Stanford Law School, Room 185
Free & open to the public

Professor Wise will join us for a screening of A Legal Person, a documentary
exploring his work on behalf of animal law. He will speak after the film
and take questions from the audience.
A Legal Person, the new feature-length documentary from directors Donna
Thomas and Paul Garstki, takes us into the mind of Steven Wise, as he in
turn takes us into the minds and lives of chimpanzees and bonobos (his
first candidates for personhood), making the points that he insists will
inevitably cause the legal world to come around to his way of thinking.
STEVEN M. WISE, J.D. is the author of Rattling the Cage: Toward Legal Rights
for Animals, a groundbreaking work of legal scholarship hailed as a primary
text in the fight for legal rights for animals. Wise has practiced animal
protection law for twenty years and has taught animal rights law at the
Harvard Law School, Vermont Law School, John Marshall Law School, and in
the Masters Program in Animals and Public Policy at Tufts University School
of Veterinary Medicine. Former president of the Animal Legal Defense Fund,
founder and president of the Center for the Expansion of Fundamental
Rights, he has written numerous scholarly articles about animal rights.
