Need for MMJ Complaints to City of Oakland
council members and city officials
repeatedly stated that there had been few complaints to the city. Both
council members De La Fuente and Quan stated that they would be willing
to look at this issue again in six months to determine whether more
dispensaries were needed

For those of you who could not make it to the Oakland Public Safety
Committee meeting on Tuesday, the committee decided to uphold the status
quo. No new dispensaries will be allowed to open (four currently operate
in the city), and on-site consumption will still be banned.
Although 21 medical marijuana supporters spoke out at the meeting,
calling for more competition, more diversity, and explaining the need
for on-site consumption, the council members and city officials
repeatedly stated that there had been few complaints to the city. Both
council members De La Fuente and Quan stated that they would be willing
to look at this issue again in six months to determine whether more
dispensaries were needed.
I contacted Nancy Nadel, the only council member who favors adding more
dispensaries and allowing on-site consumption, and discussed the need
for official complaints to the city. If you are a patient or advocate
who has a complaint, please contact Barbara Killey in the City
Administrator's office at (510) 238-2257 or bkilley [at] oaklandnet.com
Please be specific about your complaints. Tell your personal story about
why you now travel to a different city for more selection or how the ban
on on-site consumption effects your condition.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Please
forward this widely to patients who have been effected by Oakland's
restrictive ordinance.
