Hey, Long Haul Infoshop!

by Moorlock
It's customary, when charging admission to an event, to mention this fact in the advertising for the event.
I just came from the Bob Black etc. evening at Long Haul. Nowhere on the flyers advertising the event or the various internet notices of the event (those that I saw anyway) was an admission fee mentioned. When I got there, there were two people at the door collecting money and a sign that said "Anarchy Magazine Fundraiser."

The amount of money being collected ($7 with a copy of the magazine, $5 without) wasn't completely unreasonable, but I don't like being bait-and-switched in this way, so I left without paying.

Maybe you've been reading about the Evils of the Capitalist System too long and you think that the only way to do business is to do it shiftily. Even in the Evil Capitalist System, however, it's customary when charging for an event to note this in the advertising for the event.

The event wasn't sponsered by the Long Haul or Infoshop -- it was just held there. I think face to face talking to the people at the event could have resolved things-- I doubt any ill intentions with the advertising.

I think it was sponsered by: http://enpleinforme.com/
by the creditor
Hmmm. Since the event was hosted by Anarchy magazine and publicized by Anarchy magazine, maybe one should hold them accountable for any inaccuracies with the flyering rather than the venue location. The LH, like most other venues, probably doesn't expect to assume responsibility for how people publicize their event.
Just sayin'.

This was presented to me to published on the website as an event not as a benefit for Anarchy magazine. No admission charges were mentioned. I strongly doubt that other members of the LH collective were aware of this either, because the admission not charged 'sliding scale' which most people who stage benefits using the LH as a venue are strongly encouraged to do.

The event was sliding scale. While people were encouraged to actually pay for the event many (if not most) of the people who came in spent less than $5.

I apologize that you felt hoodwinked.
