SF queers 4 peace, 1971- 2005

by SUN
Please join queer contingent on Saturday morning at 19th Street & Dolores (entrance stairway of Dolores Park).
To the Bay Area Reporter:

On 24 March 1971, shortly before Bob Ross began publishing B.A.R.,
175,000 people demonstrated in SF against the VietNam War. Among them, three thousand queers
came out as "Homosexuals Against The War" (see photo in Gay By The Bay, page 54).
Sometimes they chanted "Suck cock to beat the draft!"
Today's SF peace marches probably have a higher percentage of queer participants. Yet most
queers now scatter themselves among the general crowd, not bothering to join any queer contingent,
not raising queer issues, not carrying queer signs, banners, or flags. Why?
Are we "post-queer" yet? Are other identities or causes more important to us now?
I'd like to read the opinions of fellow queers on such questions, especially those born after 1971. Please post your essays on the queer page of IndyBay.org
[ http://www.indybay.org/lgbtqi/ ].

A Different Light, on Castro Street,
ONE TEACHER IN 10
(Second Edition)
Friday, March 18, 7pm
Brian Davis, Jan Goodman, Anafaith Lubliner
From Kevin Jennings, the director of the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN),
comes a new collection of accounts by openly gay and lesbian teachers who tell about their struggles and victories, as they have put their own careers on the line to fight for justice. Each narrative recounts experiences as an openly queer teacher, or while coming-out.

*CAL-SF: 19 March, Saturday:
another ANTI-WAR MARCH
[or Anti-Fascism march... ]

Gather 11am at Dolores Park.
in Mission District;
march to SF Civic Center;
rally 1 pm.
........

-- QUEERS meet near the main ENTRANCE STEPS,
at 19th & DOLORES, where we've met before.
Look for the "Queers for Peace and Justice" banner.
Everyone welcome.
Bring banners, signs, noisemakers, etc.
Let's be loud and visible.

-- NUDISTS: meet at 10:45 am, on main entrance steps, 19th & Dolores, where queers gather.
Wear clothing which you can slip out of and back into, quickly and easily; such as a bathrobe,
a loose skirt, or a large towel. Look for bizarrely decorated picket sign, held by person in blue mask.
Most nudes won't fully strip in the Mission District, but will disrobe when entering the Civic Center area (aka the Tenderloin).

-- Getting there: Take J Church streetcar to 18th & Church,
walk downhill on 18th to Dolores,
then walk from 18th to 19th.
