Welcoming Chancellor Denton to UC Santa Cruz

by ~Bradley (bradley [at] riseup.net)
On February 14th (Valentine's Day), the Student & Worker Coalition for Justice, AFSCME Service Workers, CUE Clericals, and other campus unions "welcomed" incoming Chancellor Denise Denton on her first day at UCSC.

Several hundred students and workers marched from McHenry Library to Kerr Hall. At Kerr, the Budget Office was noisily occupied, with the large crowd flowing out onto the upper patio.

Students and workers alike are tired of hearing that tuition must go up and that paying a living wage to all workers is impossible because of California's budget crisis while top administrators and figureheads continue to be handed astronomical checks. The UC recently gave out $2.4 million in bonuses to UC health center executives to augment their six-figure salaries. The perqs for incoming Chancellor Denton include a house on the UCSC hill, $60,000 in moving expenses to relocate from Seattle, and even a brand new job for her partner to the tune of $192,000 per year.
