Jan. 20 - "Not Our President!" Bay Area Actions
January 20, 2005 counter-inaugural Bay Area actions. Not our president! Not in Out Name! 7am bannering, 10:30am mock inauguration SF Fed Bldg, 4pm Powell & Market, 5pm SF Civic Center
On January 20, the day that Bush is inaugurated, we must send an undeniable message of opposition to this administration and their entire agenda. From coast to coast, it must be made clear that Bush does not speak or act in the interests of the great majority of people here and around the world, that the direction of this government is profoundly immoral and illegitimate, and that there is a resistance that refuses to be stifled and swept under the rug. We are growing and we are determined not to stop until we forge a different future. The world needs to hear that people in this country will not acquiesce to these crimes committed in our name. January 20th is a chance for the people to re-energize and re-commit to doing all that can be done to stop this course of war and repression.
Across the country people are coming out in creative and bold ways to declare "Not Our President!"
JAN. 20 IN THE BAY AREA:
7 am: Greet the morning commuters declaring "Not Our President!" with banner drops and banner holds at highway overpasses and major intersections all over the bay area from San Jose to Santa Rosa! Claim a corner with your friends, step out in front of your school, stand at your favorite intersection (never alone!) or call us to hook up with our banners!
10:30 am: Not In Our Name Sonoma County will be protesting outside the Federal Building in San Francisco. At the time of the actual swearing in (11 am) there will be a mock inauguration and we will turn our backs on Bush in synchronicity with the protest in Washington, D.C. At the time when Bush takes the oath of office, we will shout a collective NO!
4 pm: Join Not in Our Name at Powell & Market. We will march down Market Street to the rally at SF Civic Center.
5 pm: "Stop the War! Fight the Right!" march and rally. Gather at SF Civic Center. Join the Not in Our Name contingent--look for earth flags, red "Not Our President!" signs and banners.
JAN. 20, ALL DAY LONG

Share sources of independent news. Watch progressive films and documentaries. Discuss what is going on in the world and what we all need to do to change it. Network with others by staying in touch with Not in Our Name through email or sending a rep to an occasional meeting. That way we can move quickly and decisively at a moment's notice when the world needs us to act.
