Justice for Joey Documentary needs your help!

by Scarlett Shepard (scarlettmittens [at] yahoo.com)
We are looking for individuals and professionals to be apart of our Development Committee/Advisory Board. We seek partnerships to promote community safety and justice.
-Justice for Joey Synopsis-
Early one Sunday morning on Oct 24,1976, My Uncle Joey
(age 24) was found dead and abandoned in his car on
park premises. The car was crafted into a deadly gas
chamber. No suicide note was left behind. The police
presumed it was an-open and shut instance of suicide
due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Even though
unidentifiable fingerprints found at the scene were
not that of his, and witness statements conflicted
with their ruling.
Family members and loved ones were left to mourn the
loss while rumors from the community were suggesting
his death was the result of foul play.

One of the Witnesses was deemed by the courts as a
danger to society and was the last to see my uncle on
the night before and the day after his death. He went
onto threaten my family not to point to his
involvement.
One of Joey’s best friends tried to tell the family
that he knew more. He ended up badly beaten with his
lips stapled together. My Grandmother said, “After
that you could hear a pin drop throughout the town,
nobody wanted to talk about the case.”
‘Justice for Joey’ is a personal, criminal and family
investigation that explores the unsettling times of
the late 1970’s exposing a community filled with
secrets and the police’s resistance to uncover them.
Join me while I trace the last days of Joey’s life to
make sense of the loss that changed our lives forever.
