Did "nudophobia" cause SF death?

by SUN (SaveFreedom [at] yahoogroups.com)
Even in 21st-century San Francisco, nudists can be hassled by nudophobes. ( + Oct. 1-9 calendar )
SF nudist Jay Michael Carbone, 52, died circa 23 September 2004,
apparently after suffering severe head trauma.

He reportedly lost consciousness in the outdoor patio area of a gay mens' bar in the Castro,
where he had been sunbathing nude until some prude objected.

Was there a fight between the nude and some other man?

Did nudophobia lead to Carbone's death?

-- Senior Unlimited Nudes of San Francisco,
30 September 2004

..........................................

PS 1:
In San Francisco, an ever-increasing number of festivals and events tolerate nudity.
In the queer community, Castro Street Fair has lagged behind
in this respect.
SUN hopes that CSF will soon catch up to Bay 2 Breakers, Pink Saturday, Pride Festival, DoreAlley, Folsom, et cetera.

PS 2 :
SUN believes that nudists will be welcome at SF's first annual
LOVE PARADE on Saturday, Oct. 2. Details below.

PS 3:
Here's a freedom-seekers' calendar
for October 1 thru 9, mainly in the SF Gay Area:

by IMOW,
at One Market, concourse lobby, downown SF.

"The International Museum of Women presents “Celebrating Women,” an exhibit of artifacts, music and photographs of festivals from around the world; richly documented for the first time by Paola Gianturco in her new book “Celebrating Women” (powerHouse Books, October 2004).
The International Museum of Women will open in 2008 at Pier 26 in San Francisco.

Celebrating Women features more than 17 festivals, in many countries. The exhibit affirms the power of women as athletes, defenders, goddesses, providers, warriors and more. Since different cultures deem different attributes laudable, the exhibit offers a view of how women's roles are defined by community and their identities are informed by tradition. It is an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of ourselves and others, as we strive together for positive social change. For more information please go to

CALIFORNIA: Friday, circa 8 October:
Deadline for state Attorney General Bill Lockyer to file a brief
defending Cal's unfair, homophobic and sexist marriage laws.
[ Comment by SUN: Lockyer should have recused himself from same-sex marriage lawsuits.
By handling this issue personally, instead of letting an assistant AG represent the state,
Lockyer has contradicted himself and has angered many queer voters.

"Nudophobia." What a laugh and what a distraction. In case you hadn't noticed there is a war going--in your name.

If Jay Michael Carbone was murdered, there should be an investigation and the glbt community should demand it. One has to wonder why he is dead. The only, and very subjective explanation is "nudophobia".

Mr. Carbone had no "right" to be nude at the bar. Nudity is not typical in any bar in the Castro. His nudity was likely been seen as a social nusance. By the way, bars aren't places to get suntans.

But as a gay guy who is no prude, the gent sounds like a bit of an idiot himself. His "nudity" sounds more like habitual exhibitionism. His exhbitionism was probably annoying to other patrons. No one has the right to have killed him over such an issue of course.

His nudity at the bar is not a right, but is actually a liability to the bar owner and the customers of the bar. He put the liquor license of the bar in question. The Alcholic Beverage Control Board bars nudity in all California bars. If a bar owner wants to permit the flaunting of the law in their own bar and risk loosing the license (which are valued far above $100,000 a piece) then that's one thing.
