Rally for Willow's 6 month tree-sit

by Duff
Come celebrate Willow’s 6-month, non-stop tree-sit in the ancient Redwood named Jerry!

On Sunday, May 16th at noon, Greenwood Heights Rd., in Freshwater, a rally will be held to celebrate Willows ongoing tree-sit vigil in Jerry. Willow has been living in the giant redwood named Jerry without touching the ground, since November 11, 2003. Jerry was first occupied by Remedy, who spent nearly one year in the tree before being forcefully removed by Climber Eric Schatz and his team of thugs. Jerry was immediately re-occupied and then evicted again, then re-occupied and evicted again, then re-occupied and remains occupied to this day. Willow has survived a windy, cold winter and now faces a hot summer without any of the upper canopy protection from the sun, thanks to Climber Eric who cut the upper limbs off after his second eviction. Maxxam/Pacific Lumber continues their insane rate of deforestation especially in Freshwater, Elk River watershed, and in the Mattole/Rainbow Ridge. The logging is ongoing and no legal recourse has been able to slow it down. The time is now for direct action at the point of destruction.

Forest defenders remain in numerous tree-sits in Freshwater including Everstine, Anstasia, Precitia, and a new tree-sit at Fern Gulley. Much attention is currently focused on Rainbow Ridge where several new timber harvest plans are about to start. Activists are encouraged to spend the summer fighting to save these precious last remnants of a once great coastal rainforest. Help is also needed to protect the National Forests in the Klamath/Siskiyou in Northern California and the bogus Biscuit Fire Sales in Southern Oregon.

Sunday’s rally will feature, musicians Darryl Cherney, local folk stars Karrie Wallace and Casey Conner, and Remedy will be one of many guest speakers.
