URGENT ACTION: CALL OAKLAND CITY OFFICIALS AND DEMAND
THAT THEY SUPPORT THE HUNGER STRIKE FOR EDUCATION

http://www.march4education.org

The Hunger Strike for Education is under attack by the
City of Oakland. After making their 70 mile march to
Sacramento, a group of committed teachers, students,
parents and community leaders have begun a hunger
strike in Oakland's Frank Ogawa Plaza (14th and
Broadway at the 12th Street BART Station) to demand,
as the 50 year anniversary of Brown v Board
approaches, that the State of California provide
adequate and equitable education for its children.

The hunger strike, which began on Sunday at 11:59PM
has been supported in some ways, but in others has
constantly harrassed by the City of Oakland. While
they have been allowed to stay in the Frank Ogawa
Plaza, the City immediately removed the faster's
port-a-potty and have removed their surrounding fence,
they have not allowed the fasters to camp overnight,
thus reducing their support network and forcing the
fasters to move to another location at night.

Forcing them to move and removing their port-a-potty
is extremely destructive to their strike. They will
become increasingly weak as time progresses and need
easy access to facilities and a stable place to stay.
The increasing encroachment of the City of Oakland on
their right to protest is a violation of their First
Ammendment Right and should not be tolerated by our
city!!

Please e-mail, call and fax the following officials
and express your support for the hunger strikers!
Demand that:
1. Their Port-a-potty be returned
2. They be allowed to camp without harrassment

ALSO, PLEASE GO JOIN THEM AND PROVIDE YOUR SUPPORT!!
They are located at the Oakland City Hall- Frank Ogawa
Plaza, 14th and Broadway, 12th Street BART Station.
