The remarks to which I refer are as follows (edited for the sake of brevity): "...Well, we've been watching intifada in Palestine, we've been watchingan uprising in Iraq, and the question is that what are we doing? How come we don't have an intifada in this country?...and it's about time that we have an intifada in this country that change[s] fundamentally the political dynamics in here. And we know every- They're gonna say some Palestinian being too radical-well, you haven't seen radicalism yet!" Assuming that the above quote is correct, I cannot help but be concerned that these comments appear to advocate armed over-throw of the US government by connecting intifada in that region known as Palestine and in Iraq with the absence of such a phenomenon here. As we all know, events in Palestine and Iraq have been recently characterized by suicide bombings, armed uprisings, and deaths to many, including the innocent who have not taken part in any hostilities. Regardless of one's personal political points of view on current events, any reasonable person cannot believe that anything positive comes from such occurances as we have seen in the Middle East. While I realize that Mr. Bazian was undoubtedly speaking as an individual, and not as a spokesperson for UC Berkeley, his remarks still reflect on the insttitution and all of its employees. I value free-speech as much as any person, but there are limits to what free-speech entails, such as yelling fire in a crowded movie theater, or what might be easily interpreted as advocating the armed over throw of the US government. I wonder if alumni and others who donate to the university will disagree with me. Respectfully, John C. saying that you want a global intifada is not such a bad thing if you actually know what the definition of the word is.... there is a difference between a jihad and intifada ... Intifada in my understanding of the word means a people's uprising ... and yes a lot of us in the peace movement would like a global uprising of people against all the policies of empire that are exemplified best in the regimes of bush, blair, and sharon

Why Intifada?
What inspires a nation in their entirety to Intifada? Human Rights Israel denies full human rights to the Palestinians. In the meantime, Jewish settlers enjoy the full privileges and protection of the Jewish state. For example, the Palestinians have to seek the permission of the Israelis as they go about their daily lives. Palestinians are regularly stopped and questioned by the army and police. Travel outside and within Palestine requires an "occupation signed permit" - this also occurs when Palestinians need to travel to pray. Many Palestinians rightly feel degraded by such treatment. On occasions, bribes are sought from passers by. Expulsion There are currently five million Palestinians living outside Palestine as refugees. Many left as a result of the Israeli violence. Others left after the occupation to pursue work or studies. When those people attempted to return to their homes and towns, Israel closed its borders and denied them entry....this situation continues today. Theft Over the years, Palestinian homes and villages have been cleared by the Israelis to make way for their settlements. Siege Israel controls all the ports and roads into and out of Palestine. Israel has not allowed the Palestinians to build their own port. Every shipment of food and medicine must pass under the Israelis supervision and approval. On many occasions Israel collectively punishes the Palestinians by closing these roads and ports. Torture Israeli law effectively permits the use of torture. Their statute books refer to it is "physical pressure". Killing The Jewish state has killed tens of thousands of Arabs and Palestinians. Leniency is often granted to those who commit such crimes in Israeli trials. Three soldiers were ordered by an Israeli court to pay the family of a Palestinian they killed a compensation of one cent, divided between the three. An Israeli was sentenced to serve a life sentence for killing a nine years old boy (whose head he crushed with a machine gun). He was released from jail after two years. Holy shrines Israel has desecrated the sanctuary of Muslim and Christian shrines regularly. Aqsa mosque was nearly burned down in 1969. It is still threatened with demolition by the Israelis. Frequently, Muslims are prevented from attending prayers by the Israeli army. Conclusion Palestine is our home. We were born there. We lived there. We loved there. We hate no one, but we despise injustice. In peace we believe, for freedom we fight. We have a right to live in peace in our Palestine. Strange how I hear nothing about the fact that there are plenty of Muslims and arabs Living in ISRAEL with full rights.
Strange how I don't hear a thing about the fact that IN ISRAEL, there are statues or christian, Jewish, and islamic belief standing side by side..........................Strange I don't hear or see anything from the so called SMART PEOPLE, about the fact that these places of worship are treated like garbage by muslims, (unless there's a camera around). STRANGE, I don't see anyone talking about the fact that the MUSLIM houses of worship have been used to house GUNS, and amunition. I would be more fair about what I think, If the so called SMART PEOPLE were more fair about what's really going on.......... and Finaly...................It's strange how as a young musician I found myself fighting with all you so called SMART PEOPLE. They do not have full rights. The right to buy land, for example, is severly restricted. Neither are they allowed to have their refugee family members come to live with them. Yet Jews who have never seen Israel can show up by plane, buy land that day, and live there as long as they want.
