***CAMPAIGN AGIANST POVERTY***

The Autonomous Collective recently launched a campaign to fight the
sources of poverty in San Francisco, namely capitalism. Our first
action on this campaign was opening the Thorn Squat on March 19th. We are
now formulating plans to do more actions. We are calling on
affinity groups, activist groups and others to take direct action with us
on seeing that the local government, private corporations and the state
take action on the following demands.

1. Turn all surplus city property into social housing
2. End the harassment of Day Laborers.
3. End ticketing of people sleeping in public
4. Do not implement the anti-poor legislation known as "Care not Cash".

We feel it is important to note Care Not Cash, which will take away
much needed cash assistance to persons on General Assistance Welfare, is
unjust and will only lead to the further criminalization of those
suffering under poverty. On May 1st all homeless persons will lose much of
their cash assistance and be charged rent for homeless
shelters.
Poverty is the source of most working class anxiety as well as the
source of additional social ills from abusive relationships to
substance abuse. The source of poverty, we believe, is the capitalist
system, so we believe the fight against poverty is an anti-capitalist
struggle.

AC Organizing Meetings:
The Autonomous Collective will be hosting organizing meetings on the
"Campaign Against Poverty" every Friday at United Nations Plaza (7th &
Market St) in San Francisco at 6:30pm, right after the Food Not Bombs food
sharing at the same location.

AC Mission Statement:
The Autonomous Collective (AC) works for permanent solutions to social
injustice by establishing services and products based on autonomy from
capitalism. We develop independent services such as Housing, Food
Programs, Labor Collectives and other resources that are based on
collectivism rather than capitalism. We are also based on the principle of
ecological sustainability and biodiversity. We also work to permanently
change sexism, racism, militarism. We are Queer Positive and against all
forms of oppression. Part of our mission is to engage in Direct Action
against those forces which serve injustice.
