Resist Police Harassment of the Homeless
Speak out against police harassment and ticketing of homeless people for simply eating, sleeping, and sitting in public. Tell SFPD to leave homeless people alone. Monday 3/22 Community Meeting, 6pm The Rose Hotel. 125 6th Street. SF.
San Francisco spends money to harass, ticket and jail homeless people rather than paying for housing and services that could help people exit homelessness.
This is a call to all homeless people and their allies to attend a community meeting on March 22 at 6pm at The Rose Hotel 125 6th Street to let the police know that harassment and ticketing of homeless people is unacceptable and must stop.
Last year, SFPD issued over 8,000 infraction citations for life sustaining activities. Between January 2000 and March 2003, SFPD issues over 3,500 misdemeanor illegal lodging citiations. This is expensive, unnecessary, and inhumane.
Resources are needed to address the root causes of homelessness such as poverty and lack of affordable housing.
Stand in solidarity with homeless people.
