Late last evening Knight sent a statement to the Express in which he said the issue of the incumbent Haitian administration will be discussed at Caricom's next meeting in St Kitts.

He said in the circumstances Jamaica does not recognise Lartortue's government.

"Jamaica has not recognised the interim government of Haiti as this will be the subject of deliberations by the Caricom Heads of Government at their Inter-Sessional Meeting in St Kitts later this month." Knight said.

He admitted that Haiti had recalled its ambassador from Jamaica but said this was not strange since the new administration had recalled all the Ambassadors which were posted by the former Aristide Regime.

Knight also said Jamaica had not received any official notification of a suspension of relations by the Haitian government over its decision to host former President Jean Bertrand Aristide.

He said; "We have received no notification to this effect from the interim government in Haiti and therefore we cannot respond to the reported action in the absence of such notification."

Meanwhile Prime minister PJ Patterson is expected to consult with his Caricom counterparts in an effort to have a unified response to the latest developments.

Jamaica's information Minister told the Express that Patterson will be consulting with the leaders even before the meeting is held in St Kitts.

Lartortue has accused Jamaica of an act of hostility by its decision to host Aristide and Caricom has been calling for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his departure from Haiti.
