Letter to the ILPS

by al-masakin
Dear ILPS, Thank you for the invitation to attend the Second International Assembly (SIA) in November 2004. Unfortunately, I am far too poor to attend conferences abroad as I am as homeless now as I was during the First International Assembly in 2001. It seems these days that political leadership is for those who can afford it.

The working class is accustomed to political representation by the rich and famous; they will not bemoan the self-appointed leadership of the active activists in blue jeans. It seems, however, that your conference has erred in pledging to hold one day in our defense when you should have declared to feed us for a day. There is hardly anything more insulting than watching well fed people demand our rights!
