Save the Gill Tract!

by Urban Roots
Tell the University of California (in person or in writing) what our East
Bay community thinks of their "development" plans at the only public meeting
for the state mandated Environmental Impact Review (EIR).
SAVE THE GILL TRACT!

Not long ago, you (and hundreds like you) signed a petition in favor of
turning The Gill Tract, UC Berkeley's gated 12 acres at Buchanan and San
Pablo Avenue, into an open agricultural/educational/historical park, with a
working farm, fresh produce stand, community and school gardens, day-lighted
creeks, picnic areas, a band shell, etc.

The University of California has IGNORED your wishes and the protests of the
Village residents who can't afford the higher rents, and the Little League
who wants to stay where its been for 50 years, and the Albany Historical
Society which wants the Gill Family home as a museum.

YOUR LAST CHANCE

February 26, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
in the Multi-purpose Room
of the Ocean View Elementary School
(1000 Jackson Street opposite The Gill Tract)
will be one of the last chances to
SAVE THE GILL TRACT!!

Tell the University of California (in person or in writing) what our East
Bay community thinks of their "development" plans at the only public meeting
for the state mandated Environmental Impact Review (EIR).

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Copies of the Draft Environmental Impact Report(DEIR) for the proposed
project are available for review at the Albany Branch of the Alameda County
Public Library, 1247 Marin Ave, and at the University Village office.
Please send your comments on the DEIR to Carol Kielusiak, Senior Planner,
Physical and Environmental Planning Office, 1936 University Avenue, Suite
300, UC Berkeley, Berkeley, CA 94720-1380. Written comments must be
received by March 17, 2004.

Visit http://www.gilltract.com for sample letters and key points to include in your
comments.

SUPPORT URBAN ROOTS

Urban Roots is a group of students and community members working to 1)
preserve the Albany Gill Tract as historic agricultural open-space and 2)
create Village Creek Farm & Gardens, a working community, research and
educational farm on the Gill Tract agricultural land, 3) create the
University of California Center for Urban Agriculture and Sustainable Food
Systems, and 4) support other stakeholders that are dissatisfied with the
current development plans and are demanding an open dialogue with the
planners.

If you support Urban Roots’ proposal for the Gill Tract:
1) Voice your support for Urban Roots and the preservation of the Gill Tract
at the public comment period, February 26, 2004.
2) Send your comments on the DEIR by March 17, 2004.
3) Send tax-deductable donations to:
