10/19 Poets Against Police Brutality
Poets Against Police Brutality: A night of art against the police state- poetry reading and open mic
Sunday October 19, 7pm
OPEN MIC SIGNUP AT 6PM
This event was inspired by the 8th Annual National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality, when thousands will take to the streets to mourn, to shout, to fight against the brutal thugs in uniforms that terrorize our neighborhoods and murder our children.
This event was also inspired by and honors Henry Dumas, radical Black poet, who was murdered at age 33 by NYC Transit Police in 1968.
Your steeled cities range like malignant cancers across the bellies of your land
Your sons raise death in metal machines that defecate poison into the air.
Your ideas are machine made,
your values operated by machines, your history written by machines
your language sounds like millions of coins jingling into an empty barrel.
Your heroes are dead.
Your wars are massacres...
From Tis of Thee by Henry Dumas
