NAGASAKI NIGHTMARE - Paintings by Atom Bomb Survivors
August 2003 marks the 58th Anniversary of the Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those who survived the blasts became known as hibakusha (Atom Bomb Survivors). Many hibakusha have created Paintings and Drawings based on their experiences that vividly illustrate the horrors of Atomic fire.
Yamashita Masato created the Painting displayed on this page, based on what he saw at Hiroshima. In his own words he wrote: "The charred body of a child about 4 or 5 years of age lies on the bank of the Army Nishi Parade ground on August 9, his arms raised to the sky." Mr. Yamashita was 20 years old in 1945.

Any one know if there's any art done by Chinese survivors of the Rape of Nanking? You know, where the Japanese military killed about as many people as the A-Bombs, but they did it up close and personal, including literal rape of many thousands of Chinese women? I guess there isn't any, since the Japanese are now portrayed as the "innocent" victims of agression.
