Palestinian Prisoners Declare a Hunger Strike at Beit Eil Detention Camp
AL-BEIREH, Palestine, May 05, 2003, WAFA+ IPC---For the third consecutive day, Palestinian juvenile prisoners detained at ‘Beit Eil’ Israeli detention camp established on the Palestinian lands of Ramallah and Al-Beireh, continue their hunger strike protesting their tragic conditions, and the Israeli rejection to their demands of not transferring them to the central jails.
Worth mentioning, some of these prisoners were charged without proper trials by the Israeli courts.
Mandela Association concerned with prisoners’ affairs reported that prisoners who have been visited by its lawyer Mohammed Abu Radaha confirmed that the Israeli prison administration providing the old-aged prisoners with food supplies since Yesterday.
In addition, prison dungeons are constantly damp and full of bad smells, which negatively affect the health of prisoners, causing difficulties in respiration, prisoners complained.
Mandela's lawyer: prisoners are suffering too much from the harsh detention conditions, and that they are not allowed to leave their dungeons except for a fifteen-minute break, twice a week.
He added that food is generally provided in insufficient quantities and unhygienic qualities.
The prisoners of Beit Eil demanded all international organizations concerned with human rights to intervene to guarantee their immediate release and stop the continuous deterioration in their prison conditions.
