Iraq | Anti-WarPictures From Antiwar March From West Oakland BART To Downtown
On April 7th 2003, several hundred protesters gathered at the Port Of Oakland to protest American President Lines role in helping ship material used to massacre Iraqi civilians. While the protest was peaceful, the police showed up in force shooting wooden pellets, concussion grenades, and beanbags full of metal pellets indiscriminately into the crowd. Several protesters were seriously wounded. After the crowd was forced back up 7th street to the West Oakland BART, a march took place to the federal building in downtown Oakland. ![]() march1.jpgn73692.jpg

Marching Past City Hall
![]() city_hall.jpg While the media portrays Jerry Brown as a "liberal" his policies towards the poor in Oakland have been reprehensible. Aside from the many instances of organized police brutality that only got worse under his watch, Jerry also pushed to turn the Oakland school system into a military recruiting center so that young African American kids would be more likely to go die in US wars of aggression.
