3/21/03 Jerry Still Stands!
by Amy

After getting a shave, Jerry remained standing!
Yesterday was probably the scariest day in the Freshwater watershed forest. A very brave sitter climbed to the very top of Jerry- a weak point where no one had been- Eric endangered both their lives by taking her down from there. He then cut all the limbs off with loggers and forest defenders on the ground below! Rumors of injuries are still being confirmed. One of the main forks on top was then cut off Jerry with only a relatively small spire remaining with greenery. This being done the loggers went home and left no security- they must have assumed it wasn't worth anything to the forest activists anymore. They were wrong because last night Jerry was again occupied! A brave and valiant sitter going by the name of Phil has come to watch over Jerry. Although the tree doesn't have the same towering and graceful stature that it once did, it is still a magnificant work of nature and a valuable addition to the biodiversity of the watershed and well worth the defenders' tireless efforts. Any support is appreciated. There will be a benefit for Remedy's legal fees, etc. in Briceland on 3/22/03 with dinner and music. Call (707) 923-4949. There will also be a rally at noon on 3/23/03 at the pull out by Jerry on Greenwood Heights Rd. Today climbers came and removed platforms but did not remove sitters- the battle for the trees continues!
