Police State and PrisonsSideshows at Post-Super Bowl Riots in Oakland
These pictures are from the riots that took place after the Super Bowl in Oakland. See below for more description. ![]() sideshow.jpg These sideshows -- which amount to souped-up cars peeling out in circles, or burning their tires on the ground -- were taking place up and down International Blvd. Crowds of about 300 - 400 people were circled around an intersection and the sideshows went on in the middle. As police used tear gas and wooden bullets to disperse one intersection, people hopped in their cars and converged on another intersection. Other people just wandered around on foot. The atmosphere was all about fun, hanging out, truly "taking back the streets." It was also about reminiscing of the sideshows that used to take place every weekend until Oakland police started an aggressive and public campaign to seize people's cars for the city.
This intersection is Seminary and International Blvd.
