Join two anti-war activists and supporters of the Japanese labor movement who will be visiting the Bay Area. They will be making a report on the effort by the Japanese government to militarize and support the US war on Iraq. The US government and US politicians have been encouraging the Koizumi government to violate their constitution and remilitarize. These activists will also report on a mass labor rally against the war, against the attack on fired Japan Rail Kokuro workers and for a democratic trade union movement in Japan.
We will also show a short video about the struggle of the fired Japan Rail Kokuro workers to get justice. Thousands of militant railway workers who were members of Kokuro were fired when Japan Rail was privatized by the Nakasone government. The policy of privatization and deregulation of the railways, post office and docks has been a major component of US pressure on Japan and we will learn what this has meant for Japanese working people.
