BoomBox Orchestra Jammers Unite on Jan. 18 to drown out the noise of current U.S./ Corporate warmongering and to honor the monumental work of MLK !
WHERE to meet for the march:
Corner of Sansome + Market St. at the round E-Trade Bldg.
( east exit of Montgomery Bart station )
WHEN: Jan. 18, 2003 at 10 :00 am
WHAT to bring : a portable boom box w/ CD player or
discman with battery powered speakers ( we recommend creating a comfortable shoulder strap for box and/or thin material backpack for speakers )
COLORS: Dress in solidarity w/ Green Media Actives :
green and black colors and optional creative ANTENNA head dress.
HOW it works: You will receive a Cd ( donations welcome) and we will conduct a synchronized performance which we have designed for massive , ambient and illuminating impact . ( no experience necessary, only some familiarity w/ your own cd player)
PLEASE RSVP : write to us at : sound [at] cellspace.org or gnomemad [at] hotmail.com... and tell us you would like to particpate so we can get an estimate of how many cds we will need to distribute .
( If you are available for a Friday test run at 4:30 pm you can be a bbox conductor point person and instructed for improvisational tracks ... please say YES for test run in your em. )

Background:
In the spirit of culture jamming, using modern technology and media as a means to attack the unsustainable mainstream culture that it comes out of, and, with an idea taken from the Flaming Lips's Boombox Experiments (we have found a higher calling for the concept of collaborative soundscape creation), we have created a project that we believe will be useful in the coming protest. This project is called:
The BBox Orchestra
Our Mission:
Our mission is to use sound as a sonic protest against the misguided ideals ( insert : "demented strategies ", "evil " , "bureaucratic + corporate crack-whore insanity " at your discretion ) leaking out of certain governing bodies.
This sonic protest will incorporate collaborative street performance as well as spectacle to cut through the static and give out one unified yell of "melt the mainstream via the mainstream!"
How will our mission be accomplished?
Incorporating a group of BBox Jammers, we will create a BoomBox orchestra, conducted primarily by the organizers. Using a CD of burned materials, the BBox orchestra will be given tracks to play simultaneously, creating soundscapes of protest. Improv segments will also be included for free-range noise autonomy.
What is a BBox Jammer?
A BBox Jammer is a person willing to bring a boom box, with batteries, to the Jan. 18th protest and meet the group in an announced place. You will be given one CD and instructions on how the conducting will work. Once the march starts, the BBox Jam will commence. After a while willing participants will get to conduct if they feel comfortable doing so. The CD is yours to keep for your valued collaborative effort.

Since our funds are few, we highly recommend that start your own BBox Jammers cluster. If you want to use our CD, we'll burn you a copy for a measly $1 and then you can burn your own to use.
We also encourage these new clusters to make their own anti-war BBox Jammer CDs. Feel free to em us with questions about concepts and ideas for creating Sonic Protest Soundscapes.
