Salvia Will Be DEA Schedule I If House Bill Passes

This is a copy of the bill that is currently going to Congress for vote to make salvia divinorum a schedule 1 substance. I'm attempting to publish this so that more people can become aware of this tragedy and possibly attempt to stop it before it goes into effect.

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Hallucinogen Control 4
Act of 2002’’. 5

SEC. 2. ADDITION OF SALVINORIN A TO SCHEDULE I OF 1
CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES ACT. 2
Schedule I, as set forth in section 202(c) of the Con- 3
trolled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 812(c)) is amended by 4
adding at the end the following: 5
‘‘(d) Unless specifically exempted or unless listed in 6
another schedule, any material, compound, mixture, or 7
preparation which contains any quantity of the following: 8
‘‘(1) salvinorin A. 9
‘‘(2) salvia divinorum.’’. 10

This bill is very disturbing. No one has any proof that this substance is harmful to anyone. It's short-acting, nonaddictive, and has shown no signs of causing brain damage. Salvia Divinorum does not need to be a felony. The government lacks the burden of proof.
